Investigating the Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites in Immunocompromised Patients in Bushehr Province, Southwest Iran: A Conventional and Molecular Study

Objective The aim of this study was to determine the status intestinal parasitic infections in immunocompromised patients Bushehr province, southwest Iran by conventional and molecular methods. Methods A total 201 stool samples were collected from kidney transplant recipients, AIDS under chemotherapy. Samples healthy people as control group. specimens tested using various Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing performed on identified positive for Coccidia direct microscopic examination. Results Approximately 32.45% infected with at least one type parasite. highest (46.8%) lowest rates infection (24%) observed chemotherapy patients, respectively, while rate group 16%. Isospora spp. Cryptosporidium all patient groups, Sarcocystis sporocysts detected recipients. All coccidia confirmed PCR. There a significant relationship between parasite certain variables. Conclusion Given potential risk parasites immune deficiency, it is recommended that diagnosis such be based specific parasitological Thus, advisable physicians refer them parasitology laboratory prior drug administration.
